NEW WORK BY SU SHEEDY

April Arts Press Release/Sandra Whitton Gallery'BEAUTIFUL BOGS and SHRINES'
April 8 - May 31, 2009
Opening Reception April 18th 5-8pm

Su Sheedy's new encaustic paintings entitled 'Beautiful Bogs' are highly expressive textured surfaces created from layers of beeswax which are gouged into or poured on top.

These topographical landscapes could be described as both chaotic and quietly provocative; a metaphor for bog life itself.

I am quite taken with these works by Su. I keep thinking of Monet and his water lilies when I look at them. Perhaps a modern take on a similar theme.

The more I look at them the more the colors and the shapes draw me into their world.

I was out on Vancouver Island last winter and went hiking along a trail through a wonderful bog. I can so easily remember the small plants, some with flowers, when I look at this work. And I am reminded how very critical it is to save these bogs, for they are such an important part of the ecosystem called earth.

This one intrigues me, perhaps a quieter or more serene rendition of nature's work.

Thus, i can certainly say that these works deserve a closer look, so i hope you will join me at the gallery, where a study of the actual work can be done.

Raphael Kerem has created these marvelous and exquisite shrines. I am anxious to see them in person, as they are a wonderful complement to the work of Su Sheedy's bogs.

Also featuring 'Shrines' by Raphael Kerem which are exquisitely crafted wooden boxes with gold leafed domed roofs.
These sacred architectural spaces showcase the beauty of objects he has found in nature.
