A wonderfully colorful new show is opening at the gallery on Wednesday, March 19, 2008!

Hello, all!

I would like to invite you to my return to the Eastern Ontario
Galleries, with a new show at the Sandra Whitton Gallery in Kingston!
The show is called:

"Colour Candy: Food for the Eyes" which celebrates my love of colour
in strong, bold paintings of realistic and abstract design.

The show opens on March 19th and runs until April 7th, with a "Meet
and Greet" on Saturday, March 22nd from 1 - 4 p.m.

I would love to renew acquaintances with my friends and patrons from
the Eastern Ontario Area, as I have missed my usual Studio Tours.
Please come and join me!

The attached invitation gives you an example of my latest work, as well as the address of the Sandra Whitton Gallery. If you need more
information, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Cheers!

Jennifer
Biography

Jennifer Lawton is a full-time photographic artist and painter who lives just north of Toronto, in Coldwater, Ontario. She taught art and photography for 25 years in locations such as Brockville, Ontario; Canberra, Australia; and Giverny, France, where she continues to teach each summer.

In 1978 Jennifer graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from the Art and Art History program at Sheridan College. The following year she graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Western University. Her major was art education with a minor in photography.

During her teaching career Jennifer's passion for art never ceased. She took her painting assignments seriously by completing each assignment herself beforehand and using these examples for her students.

In 1992 which she was teaching art in Australia, she was introduced to an exciting new colour palette of that country's warm tones. This challenged and improved her ability to mix colours and changed her art forever. The ice storm of 1998 is credited with launching her next style of work. When all of Jennifer's houseplants froze, she purchased every last tulip she could find to bring home. The she photographed them and made bright, colourful, oversize paintings from the photographs.

Today, Jennifer's paintings are striking for their strong saturated colours, enormous size and extraordinary views of intimate details. Ther grandeur fills a room. Their joyful colours and shapes can be appreciated from a distance and when examining her art closely you can appreciate her expertise in mixing colours and her skill in applying paint. Jennifer blends her bold hues with subtle colour shifts creating a smooth flesh-like surface. Her work stimulates the senses and challenges one's sense of scale.

Jennifer's art is held in private and corporate collections including a large private medical clinic in the U.S.A. She exhibits her work at a number of galleries, art shows and studio tours each year, and she is pleased to accept commissions to paint a particular subject in her special style. She has published three books of her work and images of her art have been published in magazines, newspapers, journals, newsletters and web sites.

From March 19th until April 7th, the Gallery will be showing the bold work of Coldwater artist Jennifer Lawton.

Candy, sugar coated gummy's, caramels, and foil wrappers, served as the inspiration for this collection of paintings.

You are all invited to the "Meet and Greet", on Saturday, March 22nd, from 1-4 p.m, where Jennifer's paintings will be accompanied by a colourful array of candy trays, and what the artists calls "tickle sticks"--(candy kabobs).

Hope to see you there!
